چکیده
tremity, pitting edema extending to the mid-thigh. No other abnormalities were found. Urinalysis revealed 4 proteinuria, numerous hyaline casts, and no hematuria or leukocyturia. A 24-hour urine collection contained 10 g of protein. A fasting serum chemistry panel showed severe hypoalbuminemia, 2.1 g/dL; hypercholesterolemia, 387 mg/dL; hypertriglyceridemia, 420 mg/dL; mild hyponatremia, 132 mEq/L; and a normal glucose level. Tests for antinuclear antibody, antidouble-stranded DNA antibody, hepatitis, and HIV serologies, as well as a rapid plasma reagin (RPR) test were negative. Complement levels were within the normal range. Light, immunofluorescent, and electron microscopy of a percutaneous renal biopsy specimen revealed unequivocal evidence of membranous nephropathy.

Effect of Genistein and L-carnitine and Their Combination on Lipid Profile and Inflammatory Cytokines in Experimental Nephrotic Syndrome
Background: Nephrotic syndrome is a disorder caused by kidney damage that results in severe leakage of protein from blood into urine. Hyperlipidemia is one complication of nephrotic syndrome. L-carnitine and genistein can control cardiovascular diseases by causing changes in lipid metabolism and cytokine production. This study was designed to examine the effects of genistein and L-carnitine on ...
متن کاملThe effectiveness of the self- care education programs on the quality of life in School Age children with Nephrotic Syndrome: A Quasi- Experimental Study
Introduction: Nephrotic syndrome is a common disorder in pediatrics that is associated with glomerular disorders. Children with nephrotic syndrome experience frequent hospitalizations which affects the quality of life of the patient and family. This study conducted to investigate the effectiveness of self-care education on the quality of life in children with nephrotic syndrome. Methods: This q...
متن کاملImpaired glomerular and tubular antioxidative defense mechanisms in nephrotic syndrome.
The molecular mechanisms behind acquired nephrotic syndrome (NS) are still largely unknown. One possible explanation for the development of proteinuria is oxidative damage to the glomerular cells. Our hypothesis was that the oxidative defense is weakened in NS, and we focused on measurements of the oxidative-antioxidative status in the glomerular and tubular parts of the nephron. Gene expressio...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Blood Biomarkers Level and the Prognosis of Nephrotic Syndrome in the Children
Background Nephrotic syndrome (NS) characterized by a large amounts of protein into urine and a set of indications that include: protein in urine, low blood protein levels, high cholesterol levels, high triglyceride levels, and swelling. Therefore, aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between prognosis of nephrotic syndrome and blood biomarkers level in children of Arak city, I...
متن کاملCalcium and Vitamin D Metabolism in Pediatric Nephrotic Syndrome; An Update on the Existing Literature
Minimal Change Disease (MCD) is the leading cause of childhood Nephrotic Syndrome (NS). Therefore in pediatrics nephrotic syndrome, most children beyond the first year of life will be treated with corticosteroids without an initial biopsy. Children with NS often display a number of calcium homeostasis disturbances causing abnormal bone histology, including hypocalcemia, reduced serum vitamin D...
متن کاملCo-existence of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and Nephrotic Syndrome with Membranous Glomerulonephritis in a 6 Year Old Boy: Report of a Case
Background: Nephrotic syndrome and type 1 diabetes mellitus are two common chronic conditions in children. Co-existence of these conditions is an extremely rare finding. Case presentation: This report presents a 6-year-old boy who was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome five years ago and type 1 diabetes mellitus in infancy. Renal biopsy showed membranous glomerulonephritis, which is a rare h...
